News round-up: Investment firm thinks Apple Services will undergo a ‘number of changes’ (and more)

In a note to clients — as reported by AppleInsider — Apple's Services arm is set to go under a number of changes that could apply pressure to the company, according to analysts at Macquarie. The investment firm says believes the longstanding 30% commission Apple takes from app sales and in-app purchases may be at risk in a similar way to those of the Google Play Store.

CIRP: iPhone XR is now the ‘principal’ iPhone model

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) has released analysis of the results from its research on Apple for the fiscal quarter that ended June 29, 2019. The research group finds that the new iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR models accounted for 67% of U.S. iPhone sales in Apple’s third fiscal quarter. The iPhone XR accounted for 48% of US iPhone sales during the quarter.

Apple files for patent for foldable headphones

In March 2018 KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo Apple forecast that Apple would launch its own branded high-end, over-ear headphone with an "all new" design to add to its growing audio accessory lineup. However, I don’t see the logic in having Apple-branded AND Beats-branded over-the-ear headphones since Apple owns Beats. What makes sense (to me) is if Apple dropped the Beats brand and had all its audio products simply carry the Apple logo.
