March 2018 Meeting

Jon,

Fantastic presentation last week. I enjoyed my visit to the MUG and will return!

After doing some thinking, and learning, it seems that a Raid 5 is not a backup solution. I'm wondering if a Raid 1 with say 8 drives (4 net) would be a better solution for a home media server... say like Plex.

Thoughts?

Ron

Next meeting: Tuesday, 13 March, 2018

First Half Hour at 6 PM
Main Presentation at 6:30 PM
Running Windows on the Mac

Some vital software will not run on the Mac, only on Windows. Stock market software comes to mind. You can get around this by running Windows on the Mac.

zimmie will remainĀ up front this month & talk about running Windows software on the Mac. The emphasis will be specifically on Microsoft Office, highlighting the differences between the Mac versions of Office and the Windows versions. The demonstrations will be using the Parallels emulation system (virtual machines). The virtual machine method allows both macOS and Windows to run simultaneously. It is possible to reformat a drive to have a dual-boot capability and run either Windows or macOS, just not simultaneously.

This is a great chance to learn how to expand the capabilities of your Mac.

The meeting is at the Metrum Credit Union, 1/3 of a mile south of Arapahoe on the east side of Holly in Centennial. The doors will open at 6 PM, and the visit time will be from 6 PM to 6:30 PM. A good time to ask questions and get advice from fellow members! As always, we will meet about 5 PM and the Panera Bread on the SE corner of Holly and Orchard for a little supper.
