April 2017 Meeting

Jon,

Fantastic presentation last week. I enjoyed my visit to the MUG and will return!

After doing some thinking, and learning, it seems that a Raid 5 is not a backup solution. I'm wondering if a Raid 1 with say 8 drives (4 net) would be a better solution for a home media server... say like Plex.

Thoughts?

Ron

Next meeting: Tuesday, 11 April, 2017

First Half Hour at 6 PM
Main Presentation at 6:30 PM
Topic: the Internet of Things

There has been a lot of news about the internet of things (IoT). This refers to web cams that watch your front door, remote controls on garage doors, lights and furnaces to controllers built into refrigerators that keep track of food you have on hand. And, being internet connected, all of these devices have the potential to be hacked from the outside.

Steve Sande of AppleWorld.today is going to talk about the IoT. What devices are available for different standards, and how they can connect using Apple's HomeKit. And, he will help you to understand the level of security now available for these devices.

The meeting is at the Metrum Credit Union, 1/3 of a mile south of Arapahoe on the east side of Holly in Centennial. The doors will open at 6 PM, and the visit time will be from 6 PM to 6:30 PM. A good time to ask questions and get advice from fellow members! As always, we will meet about 5 PM and the Panera Bread on the SE corner of Holly and Orchard for a little supper.
